How many Spirit Christmas stores will open in the United States?

Spirit Christmas will have 44 locations across the United States during the 2026 holiday season. The concept will span 15 states and make use of retail spaces that previously operated under the Spirit Halloween brand.

The initiative will allow the company to keep these locations active during another important period of the retail calendar, when consumers begin shopping for decorations, lighting, and other items for their holiday celebrations.

When will Spirit Christmas stores open?

The first week of November is the expected opening period for most locations. Before welcoming customers, the stores will undergo a transformation to replace their Halloween merchandise with Christmas-related products. Some locations will open before then. Winter Garden, Florida; Hamilton, Marlton, and Riverdale, New Jersey; and Youngstown, Ohio, are scheduled to open on October 17.

Where will Spirit Christmas stores open?

The new retail concept will reach communities across the East Coast, Southeast, and Midwest. Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia are among the states included in the plan.

What are Spirit Christmas stores like?

These stores don’t just sell holiday decorations; they offer a unique experience for the whole family. At select locations, visits with Santa Claus are free, an attraction that has been well received and helps create a festive atmosphere. Additionally, those interested can book professional family photo sessions, a paid option that complements the visit and creates lasting memories.

Origin of Spirit Christmas stores

Spirit Christmas revived an idea that Spencer Gifts had explored years earlier before turning it into a standalone concept. The company, best known for operating Spirit Halloween, tested the idea of Christmas-themed stores in 2005 and 2006. However, the current initiative took shape in 2024, when it opened eight temporary stores specializing in holiday merchandise. Since then, the concept has grown steadily and evolved into a seasonal extension of the business, with stores offering an alternative to traditional holiday décor retailers.
