Resumen Este artículo presenta un recorrido por los métodos teológicos de los siglos XX y XXI, con sus características y desafíos propios. La pluralidad y unidad de la teología es uno de los aportes surgidos del Concilio Vaticano II, a cuyo impulso se debe la renovación del método teológico y su vocación de servicio a la inteligencia de la fe en un mundo global y plural. En cuatro secciones son presentados nueve métodos. La primera sección trata del paso del método de los manuales al método histórico; la segunda sección integra los métodos que representaron un cambio de rumbo en Centroeuropa; la tercera sección trata los métodos desde la vertiente biográfico-contextual, y la cuarta sección agrupa los métodos ecuménicos. Una evaluación final muestra la oportunidad de mantener el trabajo teológico abierto a la pluralidad de métodos con sus correspondientes autocontroles de examen de unidad.Abstract This article presents a journey through the theological methods of the 20th and 21st centuries, with their own characteristics and challenges. The plurality and unity of theology is one of the contributions that emerged from the Second Vatican Council, to whose impulse is due the renewal of the theological method and its vocation to serve the understanding of faith in a global and plural world. Nine methods are presented in four sections. The first section deals with the passage from the manual method to the historical method; the second section integrates the methods that represented a change of direction in Central Europe; the third section deals with the methods from the biographical-contextual aspect, and the fourth section groups the ecumenical methods. A final evaluation shows the opportunity to keep the theological work open to the plurality of methods with their corresponding unity exam self-tests.

Abstract Theologians are widely embracing ethnographic research to accomplish their theological work. However, since most theologians are not substantively trained in social scientific methods, their sophistication with this methodology is limited, leading to distortions in recorded observations and proffered interpretations. This essay seeks to address this lack of depth by articulating some of the most essential sensitivities that are crucial to the best practices associated with exemplary scholarship emerging at the intersection of ethnography and theology. Among the most important distinctions that theologians must recognize is a simple, heuristic distinction between "found theologies" and "imposed theologies". Ethnographers know that reporting our findings always requires a careful examination of the assumptions that may unwittingly constrain what we recognize, let alone "see." The distinction offered between "found theologies" and "imposed theologies" serves to remind theologically concerned field workers that unexamined ideals and prejudices as well as deeply held values and convictions can radically direct our attention and creatively reshape our perceptions. It also allows insightful focus on the dynamics of power as well as inclusion of marginalized peoples. My modest goal, therefore, is to further equip theologically-oriented scholars to produce original, social-scientifically conscientious, yet substantively rich and responsible works that further innovate the use of social science methodology among theologians. Ultimately, by further substantiating the ethics of ethnographic practice among theologians, students and scholars will accentuate the integrity of findings and produce streams of scholarship that will foster the unexpected and urgently needed theologies of the future.Resumen Los teólogos están adoptando ampliamente la investigación etnográfica para realizar su trabajo teológico. Sin embargo, dado que la mayoría de ellos no están suficientemente capacitados en métodos científicos sociales, su sofisticación con esta metodología es limitada, lo que genera distorsiones en las observaciones registradas y las interpretaciones ofrecidas. Este ensayo busca abordar esta falta de profundidad al articular algunas de las sensibilidades más esenciales que son cruciales para las mejores prácticas asociadas con la erudición ejemplar que emerge en la intersección entre la etnografía y la teología. Entre las distinciones más importantes que los teólogos deben reconocer está una distinción simple y heurística entre "teologías encontradas" y "teologías impuestas". Los etnógrafos saben que reportar nuestros hallazgos siempre implica examinar de manera cuidadosa las suposiciones que pueden restringir involuntariamente lo que reconocemos, sin hablar de "lo que vemos". La distinción ofrecida entre "teologías encontradas" y "teologías impuestas" sirve para recordar a los trabajadores de campo preocupados por la teología que los ideales y prejuicios no examinados, así como los valores y las convicciones profundamente arraigados, pueden dirigir radicalmente nuestra atención y remodelar creativamente nuestras percepciones. También permite un enfoque perspicaz sobre la dinámica del poder, así como la inclusión de los pueblos marginados. Mi modesto objetivo, por lo tanto, es equipar mejor a los académicos teológicamente orientados para producir obras originales, social y científicamente concienzudas, mas sustancialmente ricas y responsables que innoven aún más el uso de la metodología de las ciencias sociales entre los teólogos. En última instancia, al fundamentar aún más la ética de la práctica etnográfica entre teólogos, los estudiantes y los académicos acentuarán la integridad de los hallazgos y producirán corrientes de erudición que fomentarán las teologías insospechadas y urgentemente necesitadas del futuro.

Resumen A partir del Concilio Vaticano II, la Iglesia se ha sumado a varias iniciativas que fomentan, por una parte, el conocimiento acerca de las tradiciones no cristianas y, por otra, el modo en que se interactúa con ellas. Este artículo presenta el método de diálogo interreligioso llamado Scriptural Reasoning, traducido como Razonamiento de la Escritura. Este método, que surgió en el mundo anglosajón a principios de la década de 1990, se presenta como una metodología actual que promueve el diálogo entre miembros, en especial, pero no exclusivamente, de las tradiciones judía, cristiana y musulmana. El punto de partida de este texto es la experiencia cristiana que se abre al diálogo con creyentes de otras religiones a través de las herramientas prácticas y teóricas que ofrece este método. Para comprenderlo, se prioriza la experiencia, la práctica, para luego dar espacio a la teoría. El recorrido de este texto comienza con una primera sección dedicada al modo en que se hace diálogo interreligioso según los principios de Razonamiento de la Escritura. Posteriormente, se ofrece una breve revisión de la historia del método. Las dos últimas secciones examinan los antecedentes teóricos que actualmente sustentan esta metodología de diálogo interreligioso. Aun cuando se reconocen aquellas fortalezas del método, no dejan de mencionarse aquellas posibilidades que aún no han sido exploradas y que pueden expandir sus horizontes de acción, en especial considerando las características propias del contexto latinoamericano.Abstract Since the Second Vatican Council, the Church has joined various initiatives that promote, on the one hand, knowledge about non-Christian traditions and, on the other, the way in which they interact with them. This article presents the method of interreligious dialogue called Scriptural Reasoning. This method, which emerged in the Anglo-Saxon world in the early 1990s, is presented as a current methodology that promotes dialogue between members-especially, but not exclusively-of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions. The starting point of this text is the Christian experience that opens up to dialogue with believers of other religions through the practical and theoretical tools offered by this method. To understand this method, experience and practice are prioritized, and then space is given to theory. The journey of this text begins with a first section dedicated to the way in which interreligious dialogue is carried out according to the principles of Scriptural Reasoning. Subsequently, a brief review of the history of the method is offered. The last two sections examine the theoretical background that currently supports this methodology of interreligious dialogue. Even though the strengths of the method are recognized in this text, the possibilities of this method that have not yet been explored and that can expand its horizons of action, especially considering the characteristics of the Latin American context, do not fail to be mentioned.

Resumen Muchos de los debates en la teología pastoral se orientan a la búsqueda y clarificación de su identidad metodológica, permitiendo, entre otras cosas, la constante investigación, profundización y actualización de sus métodos desde diversas áreas y contextos. Este artículo se suma a tal esfuerzo de búsqueda a partir de la propuesta específica de dos metodologías contemporáneas: la correlación triangular y el círculo pastoral. Estas dos metodologías de carácter inductivo, aun cuando no nacen en nuestra geografía continental, mantienen en sus componentes principales y en su dinámica interna un vínculo estrecho con la tradición teológica latinoamericana.Abstract Many of the debates within pastoral theology are oriented towards the search and clarification of its methodological identity, allowing, among other things, to do constant research, to deepen and update its methods from various areas and contexts. This article adds to this search effort based on the specific proposal of two contemporary methodologies: the triangular correlation and the pastoral circle. These two methodologies of an inductive nature, even though not born in our continental geography, maintain a close link with the Latin American theological tradition in their main components and their internal dynamics.

Resumen Se propone, a partir de una relectura de la historia de los métodos teológicos en la teología cristiana, indicar los antecedes y el contexto de emergencia del método teológico-pastoral conocido como "ver-juzgar-actuar". En virtud de ello, se presenta una indagación diacrónica del método en teología, periodizado en tres grandes etapas históricas: patrística, escolástica y moderna. Esta mirada diacrónica es complementada por un acercamiento sincrónico que incluye el análisis de la sistematización clásica del método teológico desde el punto de vista de auditus fidei e intellectus fidei, la cual tuvo significativas reelaboraciones contemporáneas de las cuales se da cuenta de modo sucinto. Diversas circunstancias de orden teológico, eclesial e histórico-social, tanto en Europa como en América Latina, facilitaron la emergencia del método teológico-pastoral "ver-juzgar-actuar", cuyo desarrollo logró una particular consolidación a partir de los aportes de la teología de la liberación. Este se presentó, a fines de la década de I960 e inicios de la década de 1970, con una radical novedad epistemológica tanto por su carácter inductivo como por la incorporación de la mediación socioanalítica en el punto de partida. El Concilio Vaticano II, Medellín y los desarrollos de las ciencias sociales en dichas décadas, en un contexto histórico marcado por profundas y drásticas transformaciones, dieron carta de ciudadanía definitiva a este método que ha sido incorporado, incluso, en documentos del magisterio pontificio. Sin embargo, este se encuentra desafiado a continuar profundizándose y revisándose críticamente, a la luz de los aportes de las teorías críticas contemporáneas.Abstract Based on a rereading of the history of theological methods in Christian theology, the author intends to indicate the background and the context of emergence of the theological-pastoral method known as "see-judge-act." By virtue of this, a diachronic investigation of the method in theology is presented, divided into three great historical stages: patristic, scholastic and modern. This diachronic view is complemented by a synchronic approach that includes the analysis of the classical systematization of the theological method in terms of auditus fidei and intellectus fidei, which had significant contemporary reworkings of which a succinct account is provided. Various theological, ecclesial and historical-social circumstances, both in Europe and in Latin America, facilitated the emergence of the theological-pastoral method "see-judge-act," whose development achieved a particular consolidation from the contributions of Latin American Liberation Theology (LALT). It was presented (in the late 1960s and early 1970s) with a radical epistemological novelty both due to its inductive nature and the incorporation of socioanalytic mediation at the starting point. The Second Vatican Council, Medellín, and the developments of the social sciences in the 1960s and 1970s-within the framework of a historical context marked by profound and dramatic transformations-gave definitive life to this method that has been incorporated, even, in documents of the pontifical magisterium. However, it is challenged to continue deepening and critically reviewing itself, in light of the contributions of contemporary critical theories.
