Eating ultraprocessed foods may negatively impact your muscles. A study published in the journal Radiology in April of 2026 found that dietary patterns high in ultraprocessed foods were associated with more fat in thigh muscle tissue. The study used MRI scans to measure the amount of fat in the thigh muscles of 615 individuals at risk for knee osteoarthritis. The participants filled out questionnaires about their typical dietary intake.
