Physical Activity and the Development of Coordination Skills in Elementary School Students

Physical activity plays a crucial role in the development of coordinative abilities among Basic General Education students. These abilities are essential for motor development and physical performance, and they have a significant impact on children’s physical, cognitive, and social development. The objective of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the relationship between physical activity and coordinative abilities in basic education students. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol guidelines for the search and selection of studies in databases such as SciELO, ScienceDirect, Dialnet, and Google Scholar. The review focused on articles published between 2020 and 2025. The results show that structured physical activity programs, recreational activities, and traditional games are effective in improving motor coordination, balance, spatial orientation, and fine and gross motor skills. Furthermore, these strategies contribute to students’ emotional well-being and social integration, including those with Developmental Coordination Disorder, demonstrating that the proper planning and adaptation of interventions are key factors for their effectiveness.
